San Diego Art Camp Ceramics Program

What to Expect

• Hands-On Ceramic Projects: Kids learn a wide range of ceramic techniques, including pinch pots, coil pots, slab construction, and sculpture. Projects include making lidded containers, cups, houses, cities, masks, animal and human figures, ocean scenes, and more.

• Clay and Firing: Due to time constraints, both traditional ceramic clay and self-drying clay are used, so all projects can be completed by the end of the week. Kids also learn about glazing and the firing process.

• Skill Development: Emphasis is placed on hand-eye coordination, fine motor skills, creativity, and the importance of dedication and follow-through.

• Professional Instruction: The camp is led by experienced art educators, such as Jana Kenney, who has a master’s degree in ceramics and extensive teaching experience.
